McKinney-Vento Act - Transitional housing program

McKinney-Vento (MV) Act is part of the U.S. Department of Education's federal Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) program. To learn the brief history of EHCY program, click here. 

What is it?

The MV program is for families who are experiencing a loss of housing due to economic hardship. If your family is homeless, or, occupying a temporary or inadequate living situation (shelter/unsheltered, doubled-up, hotels/motels, etc) due to a loss of housing, your child might be eligible for certain educational rights and services. Families who qualify for McKinney-Vento services are eligible to receive assistance with transportation, free/reduced lunches, clothing, medical, etc.
